Sports-related injuries are on the rise with our U.S. children and adolescents. More than 3.5 million children ages 14 and younger get hurt annually playing sports or participating in recreational activities.  Besides organized sports like football and baseball, many types of youth recreational sports are widely practiced including dance/performing arts, mountain biking, skateboarding, trick skating, martial arts, and more.  It is not surprising that over 1 million sports injuries are treated in the emergency room each year. In fact, a child is taken to the emergency room every 25 seconds, with 12 percent of cases related to concussion. This is why Youth Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy is needed.

At Legacy Therapy & Wellness, we understand that regardless of their sport or ability level, each child and teen has unique Youth Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Injury Prevention, and Wellness needs with regard to their growing bodies.   During a growth spurt, a child or adolescent’s body is especially susceptible to particular injuries.   Our youth orthopedic & sports medicine specialists have the expertise to handle the needs of the growing body, including how to effectively rehabilitate injuries related to growth plates with Youth Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy.

Our physical therapists evaluate each pediatric and youth patient using both a whole person movement approach system approach and a specific injured body area evaluation.  We provide extensive gait analysis, assessment and treatment of the “kinetic chain” – including advanced kinesio-taping and other specialized taping methods, custom fit orthotics and neuro training methods key to young kids who need to improve sensory-motor functioning to help prevent future injury.

Our Legacy Therapy & Wellness team includes Physical Therapists with Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, and also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.  Our Physical Therapists have more than 50 years of combined physical therapy experience with Youth Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy.

Kids and teens are not “small adults”; they think and process information differently. Our therapists tailor each treatment session to reflect the demands of each patient’s social, psychological, or emotional needs. We incorporate age-appropriate, sports-specific exercise, and education into every treatment session.
